 There comes a time in life when a holiday without children is required and at holidays-2 we strive to help you find such a holiday. There is only one adult only holiday in Gran Canaria that we know of but there are a few hotels that don't encourage families with children. Up until now the only way to try and avoid being overrun by kids was to pay a premium and stay at one of the top five star hotels but this in itself was never a guarantee of a child free holiday. Gran Canaria is the third largest of the Canary Islands. Roughly circular, it has an average diameter of just over 30 miles and rises to the 6,400-ft Pico de las Nieves at its centre. Gran Canaria has been billed as a ‘miniature continent’ because of the variety of climates and landscapes that it offers, from the big city bustle of the capital, Las Palmas, to the serenity of its lush woodlands. Gran Canaria lies around 120 miles off the west coast of Africa and offers all year sunshine – especially in the south of the Island. The north of the island is humid, boasting green valleys and volcanic craters, while the south is arid and desert-like with vast stretches of beach. Tourists generally favour the southern coastline, flocking to the well-known beaches of Playa del Inglés or Maspalomas, where the sea washes soft sands and empty dunes stretch for miles.
